This listing is for an exceptional 16.5" loose strand of vintage Japanese freshwater pearls. These Japanese freshwater pearls are very difficult to acquire due to the decline in the late 90's.  They are also difficult to find due their large size.  The lavender/pink color with metallic overtones is all natural and the pearls are all nacre.  The pearls from Japan from the 90's were left in the mollusk for years.  The lengthy growth time produces a very thick nacre.  Today, the majority of freshwater pearls are from China and harvested more rapidly. Thick nacre is most desirable and will last generations.
